"When the perfect wedding dress appears,

when you see yourself in it for the first time,

you’ll simply know it’s the one…."

Az esküvőszervezés talán egyik legnehezebb de egyben legizgalmasabb és legszebb folyamata a MENYASSZONYI RUHA Finding the WEDDING DRESS is perhaps one of the most challenging, yet also one of the most exciting and beautiful parts of wedding planning. A perfect wedding also calls for a perfect wedding dress. That’s why, in the WeddingTV episode on Wedding Dresses and Attire, we invited experts to share the most essential tips.

Kata Körmendy-Szomoru – bridal stylist and wedding style consultant, and Zsuzsa Szabó – one of the founders of Leya Couture Salon, shared their insights on selecting the ideal wedding dress, the differences between renting and tailoring a dress, and other valuable advice for brides-to-be preparing for their big day.

Choosing the Wedding Dress: Tailored or Rented?

Selecting a wedding dress is one of the most critical processes for a bride. As emphasized by experts Kata and Zsuzsa, this journey should begin well before the wedding day. Many brides dream about their perfect dress from childhood and later embark on the search to bring that vision to life.

For custom-made dresses, brides need to decide whether they want a unique, bespoke design or a piece from a designer’s collection. A collection dress is part of a ready-made concept envisioned by the designer and adjusted to fit the bride at the salon. In contrast, a custom design is crafted specifically for the bride’s preferences—a longer, more detailed process that starts with selecting fabrics.

When and How to Start Dress Fittings?

For a bespoke design, the process should begin a year before the wedding, while for collection dresses, it’s sufficient to start fittings 6–8 months prior, advises Zsuzsa.

Brides uncertain about their dress choice often turn to a bridal stylist. Kata recommends consulting a stylist at least a year, but no later than 9 months, before the wedding to guide them through the process and help them find their perfect gown.

Body Shape Analysis and Other Key Factors in Dress Selection

Brides have the chance to try on various styles at different salons and can choose to either rent or—if they decide later—have a dress made. Before the first fittings, it’s important to understand one’s body shape and identify which cuts and styles are most flattering. A bridal stylist can be of great help here, but salon staff and designers are also happy to assist.

In addition to body shape analysis, knowing the wedding style and venue can significantly ease the selection process. Details like the ceremony location, the size of the aisle, whether the wedding will be indoors or outdoors, and the desired level of drama for the entrance can all influence dress choice. With this information, professionals can provide personalized recommendations to help brides find the ideal gown.

The Fitting Process

When creating a custom gown, the first appointment is for the bride to explore different styles and get acquainted with potential designs. At the second fitting, the bride places a deposit and officially orders the dress. Measurements are taken at this stage. The final fitting takes place 6 weeks before the wedding, followed by any last-minute adjustments. The finished gown is typically ready 2–3 weeks before the wedding.

According to Kata Körmendy-Szomoru, most salons allow multiple fittings for custom dresses. For rentals, however, brides usually try the dress only 1–2 weeks before the wedding after placing a deposit. It’s crucial for brides to bring their wedding shoes to these fittings so the salon can adjust the dress length accordingly. Accessories like jewelry and headpieces are also important during fittings, as they give brides a clearer picture of their complete wedding day look.

Both experts emphasized that the bride’s decision should always come first. It’s essential for brides to feel comfortable and confident in their chosen dress, as this significantly boosts their self-assurance on the big day.

Wedding Dress Prices

Wedding dress prices vary widely, so it’s worth researching options in advance. Rental dresses typically range from 250,000 HUF to 600,000 HUF. In contrast, designer collection gowns at Leya Couture Salon cost around 400,000–600,000 HUF, while entirely bespoke designs can reach millions of forints.

Experts caution against overly cheap Chinese and Ukrainian dresses, as their materials or craftsmanship can pose risks.

Trends

Our guest experts noted that comfort and practicality are top priorities for brides today. Minimalist gowns with clean lines and subtle embellishments are in high demand, with luxurious materials often making these dresses truly special.

Choosing a wedding dress isn’t just about appearance—it’s deeply tied to the bride’s personality and style. With countless options available, brides need to find the one that best reflects their individuality, making their special day even more memorable. Wedding preparations should not only be a challenge but a joyful experience to cherish.

We hope this conversation provides valuable guidance to brides in selecting their perfect dress. Watch the full episode here:
